The word pronoia carries two meanings that define us. In ancient Greek, pronoia (πρόνοια) means forethought — the rational, benevolent foresight the Stoics believed governed the cosmos. In modern psychology, it's the opposite of paranoia: the belief that the universe is conspiring in your favor. We build with both ideas in mind — apps designed with careful foresight that leave you feeling like something is quietly looking out for you.

From personal need to shared mission
It started with a simple frustration: managing shared finances as a couple was harder than it needed to be. Spreadsheets felt cold, existing apps were designed for individuals, and nothing captured the collaborative spirit of building a life together.
Along the way, we discovered the word pronoia — the ancient Greek concept of forethought and benevolent foresight, and its modern meaning: the opposite of paranoia, the belief that the world is conspiring in your favor. It captured exactly what we wanted our tools to feel like. Not just useful, but on your side.
So we named the company after that idea, and built BalanceUs as its first expression — a budget tracker designed from the ground up for two people. An app that feels like it's looking out for you.
